چکیده

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants change their metabolic state in response to low non-freezing temperatures adjusting the cellular homeostasis for upcoming winter season. The induction of oxidative stress during cold hardening as well as in response to freezing stress and recovery was under investigation in this work. Here we present data about the performance of some enzymes involved in plant antioxidative network in two wheat varieties, winter and spring. Freezing induced plasma membrane disruption and considerable accumulation of different by-products like malondialdehyde and proline was observed in the non-hardy spring cultivar.

Assessment of Root Growth and Physiological Responses of Four Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Cultivars to Salinity Stress

Enlarged root systems that extend into the salt affected soil improve water and nutrient capture by plants and can increase plant productivity. In order to examine root system characteristics of four bread wheat cultivars contrasting in salt tolerance (Arg, Ofoq, Tajan and Morvarid) a greenhouse experiment was conducted with applying two salinity levels (0 and 150 mM NaCl) on plants grown in PV...

THE RESPONSE OF FOLIAR PROTEINS IN TWO WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM) CULTIVARS TO SALT STRESS

Effect of various NaCl treatments (0, 50, 100, 200, and 300 mM) at different growth and development stages (tillering, boot swellen, flowering and anthesis) in two wheat cultivars (Ghods: salt – sensitive, Boolani: salt – resistant) on SDS-PAGE electrophoretic pattern of leaf proteins was studied under greenhouse conditions. Generally, in response to salinity treatments, the decrease in protein...

Evaluation of Biochemical Response and Defense Mechanism of Wheat Antioxidant Enzymes to Salinity Stress

Understanding the reaction form and biochemical response of wheat cultivars about the salinity stress can help to better understand the defense mechanisms and identify the indicators and biomarkers of tolerance screening for salinity stress in this strategic plant and other field crop. For this purpose, biochemical traits related to salinity tolerance of wheat cultivars were evaluated as a f...

Responsive Proteins in Wheat Cultivars with Contrasting Nitrogen Efficiencies under the Combined Stress of High Temperature and Low Nitrogen

Productivity of wheat (Triticumaestivum) is markedly affected by high temperature and nitrogen deficiency. Identifying the functional proteins produced in response to these multiple stresses acting in a coordinated manner can help in developing tolerance in the crop. In this study, two wheat cultivars with contrasting nitrogen efficiencies (N-efficient VL616 and N-inefficient UP2382) were grown...
